A Decade Of Creativity: Canal Walk's Revamped Murals

The murals at canal walk = my inner peace 🖼️✌️☮️ Did you know the very first murals painted at canal walk were done in 2012? ICYMI: In September 2022, the canal walk murals were completely revamped during the @rvastreetart festival! 🧑🏼‍🎨🎨 I love that all of the muralists are local RVA artists that came together to celebrate the creativity and presence of street art in Richmond over the last decade. I’m still bummed my favorite mural got painted over (@jeffsotoart’s iconic owl 🦉 #iykyk), but the new murals were definitely a much-needed splash of color and revival of canal walk. A fun fact I learned while writing this post is that mural artist, Christina WingChow, preserved part of the previous owl mural by incorporating it into the 2 upper right teal bubbles of her mural, which makes me appreciate the new mural even more! 💙

Here are all the artists tagged in order of the murals from left to right along with the titles for the ones I was able to find:

👁️‍🗨️ @_dkane // “RVA FAMILY”

🧤 @seanmcclintock // “KNOW HOPE”

❤️‍🔥 @chrisvisions // “Sweets to the Sweet”

🩰 @auz_can // “PURR”

🌌 @elimcmullen // “Many Suns”

🐁 @nilsrva // “Opossum”

🧙🏼 @thenightowl // “Home Improvement”

📍 1201 Haxall Point (Shockoe Slip)

The canal walk actually connects to the capital trail which makes it perfect for walking, running, and even biking! 🚶🏻‍♂️🏃🏽‍♀️🚴🏽 If you haven’t visited the canal walk murals yet, what are you waiting for?!
