Chef Mike Lindsey Opens His First Restaurant: Lillie Pearl

This NEW black-owned restaurant in town will absolutely BLOW you away! 🤩 I went to Lillie Pearl on E Grace St. yesterday evening for dinner and it was the epitome of fine dining. 💯 Lillie Pearl is owned by Mike Lindsey and Kimberly Love-Lindsey (former Executive Chef and Director of Operations of EAT Restaurant Partners) and serves New American food with an ethnic twist.

I got their main staple, the Obe Ata Braised Lamb Shank with jollof rice which is a traditional West African dish. It came out stacked like a towering mountain on my plate and the presentation of the food was literal culinary art (almost too pretty to eat)! The lamb was tender, fall off the bone meat and paired so well with the tomato and bell pepper sauce.🍖🍅🌶 I also got the pimento Baked Mac and Cheese as a side and then the Millie’s Banana Pudding for dessert (which had cinnamon sugar cookies it it)! 🤤🧀🍌🍪 Also pictured is the Fried Chicken and the Seasonal Treat which was a Hazelnut Chocolate Cake. 🍗🍰 All the food was so similar yet SO different from mainstream, I don’t think I’ve ever tasted anything quite the same before.

Since they are brand new, they won’t get their liquor license until later this week, but they are serving mocktails until then. I especially loved the open concept atmosphere of the restaurant that allows you to see into the kitchen and really brought the whole place together as one. Chef Mike even came to each table and asked about our meal/experience which really showed how much he cares about the opening of his first restaurant. 🥰

The tables both inside and out are social distanced and I had no worry of feeling cramped while there. One downside is the limited parking options, I walked there because I live close, but it took my friend 20 min to find a spot to park (so just make sure to go early if driving). Reservations can be made on their website and I think this would be the perfect place to plan a special, intimate dinner especially with the holidays coming up. Or, if you are feeling more casual, brunch and lunch are always options too! With so many restaurants closing because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lillie Pearl brings exactly the kind of warmth and joy that downtown Richmond (and I) needed! 🥳🙌🖤
