Little Mexico Owners Open Lolitas In Carytown

Updated: May 19, 2022

Let’s TACO bout’ my love for Lolita’s on this #TacoTuesday…or should I say #TacoTWOsday since it’s 02/22/22?! 🌮💗😋 I visited @lolitasrva to celebrate Galentine’s Day and I was pleasantly surprised by both the food and the atmosphere! First off, the weather was beautiful on the day I went, so they had their glass doors open which transformed the indoor space into a semi-outdoor space. It was perfect for enjoying the heat (in the middle of winter I might add 😂) and people/dog watching on Cary St. The interior was fabulous with its pastel colors and the owners (who also own @littlemexicorva 🎉) used inspiration from small towns in Mexico and worked with Mexican artisans to bring the traditions of their mother, ‘Lolita,’ to life! ♥️ You could tell a lot of effort was put into the design process and I even loved that the bathrooms tied in the same elegance of the restaurant.

Now for the food, we ordered the Queso Fundito Veggie to start which was some of the highest quality cheese ever and is topped with mushroom and cactus. 🤯🌵 I didn’t even realize it was cactus until typing this lol so now I can finally say I tried cactus! 🤣 There’s also a version of queso with chorizo instead of veggies…I’m sure you can’t go wrong with either!

For tacos, I tried the Pork Belly Pibil as recommended by @cafeconleche.rva, and my friend got the Baja Shrimp tacos. 🌮 The pork belly was so juicy and had insane flavor…I definitely recommend! They even use fresh blue corn tortillas which were delicious, although they did fall apart as we ate them. 😅

For dessert, we tried the Churros and Violet Raspberry Compote (menu special) which both had such cute presentation with the little flowers. 🌼 The churros were amazing with the dulce de leche sauce and were great for sharing too which is a plus! 👍 The dessert special had blackberries and cream cheese which gave it such a rich, divine flavor.

Overall, I was SO impressed with my experience and I already cannot wait to go back to try some other menu items! Little Mexico was my favorite casual spot to get tacos back in college, and just as I’ve matured over the years, I feel like Lolita’s represents that new, modern sophistication and growth as well. I have a feeling this will become my new go-to spot and I’m all here for it! 🙌
